As February folds itself away, we pause to gather the threads it left in our hands. We felt it was important to tie a few knots before stepping forward. Safety, creativity, and community have each been speaking in their own language. Now it is time to let them braid.
On safety: This blog aims to create spaces centred on women and feminist perspectives, while honouring LGBTQ+ and other marginalised voices. Safety here is not comfort for all at all times, but intention, listening across differences, recognising power, and tending the threads that make this space strong.
On creativity: Art and creativity take many forms here:
- DIY & Crafts โ sewing, knitting, or small projects
- Visual Arts โ painting, drawing, photography, digital art
- Expressive Writing & Journaling โ prose, poetry, short stories, novels
- Music & Movement โ singing, playing instruments, dancing
Even reading, particularly fiction, can serve as a regulated creative experience. It allows the nervous system to explore emotion, identity, conflict, and desire at a safe distance. Within a story, attention can move between inner experience and narrative structure, creating space for reflection without urgency.
Expressive writing, ritual, and symbolic making offer additional ways to braid safety and creativity. Journaling externalises thoughts and feelings, helping the mind and body regulate together. Ritual provides intentional repetition, giving structure and rhythm to experience. Symbols and metaphor allow non-verbal processing, carrying emotion, memory, and insight where words alone may fall short
This lens will guide upcoming book reviews and author conversations, highlighting feminist, LGBTQ+, and marginalised voices. These encounters invite reflection, affirm agency, and cultivate inner safety, turning reading and dialogue into active, embodied practice.
This is where safety, creativity, and community fully come together. The strands are recognised for the strength they bring, gathered and woven with care into a braid that can hold, stretch, and support.
Vulpes have guided us through gender perspectives before. In a world that constantly asks us to account for difference, it is more important than ever to create spaces that are safe, creative, and inclusive. To continue this work, we have also started a Facebook Group you are welcome to join. It is a space for creativity, reflection, and supporting one anotherโs mental health.
As we move forward, let us keep tying our threads together, noticing where they cross and where they hold, so that the braid of our shared work becomes stronger with every knot.
Love,
Bloom & Vulpes
Art is the communityโs medicine for the worst disease of mind, the corruption of soul.
– Collingwood (1975)
